Distribution: Honduras to Bolivia, NE Argentina, Guianas, and E Brazil.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc) as Tonatia silvicola .
Discussion: Includes laephotis and amblyotis; see Davis and Carter (1978). See Medellín and Arita (1989). The species name for this taxon was formerly spelled silvicola when used in Tonatia, but must be spelled silvicolum when combined with Lophostoma, which is a Greek neuter noun. These names have sometimes been spelled sylvicola and sylvicolum, but I retain the original spelling here.
