Type Locality: Brazil, Espirito Santo, Jucu River, Fazenda de Coroaba.

Vernacular Names: Silky Short-tailed Bat.

Synonyms: Carollia bicolor Wagner 1840; Carollia grayi Waterhouse 1838; Carollia lanceolatum Natterer 1843; Carollia minor Gray 1866 .

Distribution: E Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and N & E Brazil; Trinidad.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Long confused with perspicillata or subrufa; see Pine (1972). Range restricted to N South America and E Panama by Baker et al. (2002), who referred all Central American records (from W Panama north through Mexico) to sowelli . It is possible that these taxa occur in sympatry in Panama, but this has not yet been demonstrated.
