Informally divided into to two groups by Carstens et al. (2002); "choeronycterines" ( Anoura, Choeronycteris, Choeroniscus, Hylonycteris, Lichonycteris, Musonycteris, and Scleronycteris), and "glossophagines" ( Glossophaga, Leptonycteris, and Monophyllus).
