Batillaria zonalis (Bruguière, 1792): Zvonareva et al. 2015: 8, fig. 3(3).
Batillaria n. sp.: Ozawa et al. 2009: fig. 4.
Material examined. Nha Phu Bay, Dam Bay, natural and planted mangroves, over 500 specimens.
Abundance. Common.
Measurements. Up to 30 mm.
Ecological notes. In studied sites this species were found mud and sand banks of mangrove streams.
Distribution in Vietnam. Central coast.
Remarks. Recently the presence of an undescribed species, often referred to as Batillaria zonalis was revealed by molecular data (Ozawa et al. 2009). This new species was recorded from Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, while true B. zonalis was not yet found in Vietnam. In the absence of molecular data we are unable to identify our species. At least some of published records of B. zonalis are the records of this new still unnamed species. Therefore the published data on ecology and distribution may apply both to B. zonalis and B. n. sp.
