Material examined. Petro-UFS—1,421 (11 M, 20 F); size range: 16.17 ≤ CL ≤ 29.35 mm; average: CL = 23.26 ± 3.96 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00029. Penaeid—1,076 (418 M, 658 F); size range: 11.05 ≤ CL ≤ 42.55 mm; average: CL = 21.85 ± 5.00 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00346.
Stations. Petro-UFS—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17; Penaeid—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—Caribbean Sea, Cuba, and the Antilles, the north of South America, and Brazil (from Amapá to Rio de Janeiro) (D’Incao 1998).
Ecological notes. From shallow waters up to 190 m, more frequently at 75 m depth. Juvenile inhabits estuarine waters (Almeida 2009).
Remarks. Previously recorded as Penaeus subtilis (D’Incao 1998; Barros & Pimentel 2001), as Penaeus aztecus subtilis (Pérez-Farfante 1967), and as Penaeus (Melicertus) aztecus subtilis (Pérez-Farfante 1969) .
