Porcellana sayana (Leach, 1820)

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (from North Carolina to Florida, and Gulf of Mexico), Bahamas, Antilles, Central America, the north of South America (Colombia, Venezuela), Guyana, French Guiana, Brazil (from Amapá to Rio Grande do Sul), and Uruguay (Melo 1999; Almeida et al. 2007 a).
Ecological notes. From intertidal zones to 92 m depth. Mud, shell and sand bottoms. It can also be commensal of Paguridae, Diogenidae, and the Gastropoda Lobatus gigas (Linnaeus) (Melo 1999; Almeida et al. 2007 a).
Remarks. Porcellana frontalis Heller and Porcellana stimpsoni A. Milne-Edwards were considered a synonym of P. sayana (Lemaitre & Campos 2000) . Specimens collected by Santos et al. (2016) were downstream of the São Francisco River, at the border of Alagoas and Sergipe.
