Distribution. Western Atlantic—North Caroline, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, and Brazil (from Maranhão to Rio de Janeiro). Eastern Pacific—Gulf of California, and Panama (Melo 1996).

Ecological notes. From shallow waters to 90 m. Found on rocky bottoms and corals, and on sand bottoms, shells, algae, and bryozoans (Melo 1996).
