Material examined. Petro-UFS—7,996 (17 M, 81 F, 25 OF); size range: 5.82 ≤ CL ≤ 13.55 mm; average: CL = 9.23 ± 1.31 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00015. Penaeid—2,060 (626 M, 728 F, 706 OF); size range: 5.06 ≤ CL ≤ 14.00 mm; average: CL = 9.70 ± 1.39 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00262.
Stations. Petro-UFS—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17; Penaeid—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana and Brazil (from Amapá to São Paulo, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul) (Almeida et al. 2007 a; Ferreira et al. 2010).
Ecological notes. From shallow waters to 60 m. On mud, sand, and calcareous algae bottoms (Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1990, 1998; Almeida et al. 2007 a).
Remarks. Previously recorded as Palaemon schmitti (Holthuis 1950; Ferreira et al. 2010) and as Palaemon (Nematopalaemon) schmitti (Holthius 1950; Ramos 1971; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Ferreira et al. 2010). Specimens collected by Santos et al. (2016) were downstream of the São Francisco River, at the border of Alagoas and Sergipe.
