8. Anthidium petechiale Morawitz, 1875

Anthidium petechiale Morawitz, 1875: 120 (key), 130, ♀.

Type locality: Tajikistan.

Published locality: “between Iori and Dashty-Kazy”.

Holotype: ♀ (see remark below).

Current status. Junior synonym of Pseudoanthidium (Pseudoanthidium) cribratum (Morawitz, 1875) (synonymized by Warncke 1980: 162; combination according to Litman et al. 2021: 1317).

Remarks. The species’ status is currently unclear. The validity of Anthidium petechiale is yet to be verified.

The holotype of Anthidium petechiale was borrowed by van der Zanden in April 1992 (as indicated in the box containing Fedtschenko’s types). Following van der Zanden’s death, his collection was donated to the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden (the Netherlands). Specimens bear a small label stating “from the collection of van der Zanden”. Tomas Wood (personal communication) searched this collection for the A. nigrinum type from ZMMU, but could not find it.

Distribution. Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan (Warncke 1980; Murao et al. 2015; Litman et al. 2021).
