Simulium sheilae Takaoka and Davies 1995
The female, male, pupa, and mature larva of S. sheilae were reported from West Malaysia (Takaoka and Davies 1995). The eight gill filaments are arranged in groups of 3 + 3 + 2 from dorsal to ventral (Fig.3 E). The larva is characterized by a deep postgenal cleft, which almost reaches the posterior margin of the hypostoma (Fig. 4 C), and dark, delicate setae with 26 branches on abdominal segments V–VIII (Fig. 2 G).
Five of 35 larvae were analyzed for major landmarks. The centromere region of chromosome I is not expanded. In the IIS arm, the ring of Balbiani is basal and the bulge subterminal (Figure 1 H).
