Redescription of Procestus simplex Townes, 1970

Type: female (Fig. 22), Nova Teutonia, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Oct. 22, 1952, Fritz Plaumann (Townes) .

Fore wing length 9 mm.

Head. Malar space about 0.5 × as long as basal mandibular width (Fig. 23); frons simple (Fig. 24); occipital carina a little raised (Fig. 22); temple and occiput weakly convex (Fig. 22).

Mesosoma. Epomia ending dorsally below upper edge of pronotum; mesoscutum with punctures small, separated by about twice their diameter (Fig. 23); propodeum without a distinct posterior transverse carina (Figs 22 & 24); fore tarsal claws with slender, pale-colored pecten teeth on their basal 0.65; fore wing with bulla in 2m-cu vein 0.7 as long as the rest of this vein; hind wing with nervellus (composite vein first abscissa of CU & cu-a) intercepted at its center.

Coloration (Figs 22–24). Head black; face yellow with blackish brown areas at antennal sockets, near clypeus and malar space, and on midline; small spot on inner (or facial) orbit and very narrow stripe on outer (or temporal) orbit yellow; mouth parts yellow or brownish yellow, the basal 0.6 of mandible mostly fuscous; antenna dark brown, the apex of scape in front, pedicel except above, and lower side of first two flagellomeres yellowish. Thorax black, the scutellum yellow at apex and on sides; tegula blackish; fore coxa dark brown; mid and hind coxae black; fore and mid legs yellow beyond coxae, mid trochanters partly brown above; hind trochanters dark brown with apex of first trochanter and upper side of second yellowish; hind femur blackish with a dorsal area at base that is pale brown; hind tibia dark brown, paler at ends; hind tarsus yellow, brownish toward apex; wings light yellowish brown, apical 0.2 of fore wing a little darker; pterostigma light brown. Metasoma reddish brown.

Male: unknown.
