Our westernmost record, from Rainy Lake, is west of the Ontario distribution mapped by Wallis
(1961) but within the range mapped by Pearson et al. (2015) ( Fig. 5 View Fig ). Based on the ranges mapped by Pearson et al. (2015), northern Ontario records belong to the subspecies C. hirticollis hirticollis , though new research suggests that this species is genetically homogenous in eastern North America (D. P. Duran, unpublished data). This species is widely distributed across North America (Pearson et al. 2015), and in Ontario it is almost exclusively found on sandy edges of rivers and lakes .
