Lectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1379.” [in Broun’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “ nigropictus ” [in Broun’s hand], “Lectotype \ Cyphon nigropictus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand]. Paralectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “PARA- \ LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1379” [in Nyholm’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.” [in Nyholm’s hand], “Paralectotype \ Cyphon nigropictus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Cyphon nigropictus was described from two specimens from an unknown locality (Broun 1883).

Cyphon signatus Broun 1886: 958 . Pic 1914: 35 (catalogue). Nyholm 2000: 66 (synonym of Cyphon nigropictus Broun, 1883 ).

Type locality. Mount Egmont.

Remarks. Cyphon signatus Broun, 1886 was described from five specimens collected from Mount Egmont (Broun 1886).

Cyphon fulvicornis Broun 1893: 1144 . Pic 1914: 31 (catalogue). Nyholm 2000: 66 (synonym of Cyphon nigropictus Broun, 1883 ).

Type locality. Mount Arthur.

Remarks. Cyphon fulvicornis Broun, 1893 was described from a single specimen collected from Mount Arthur (Broun 1893).
