Genus Acromyrmex Mayr   HNS

These leaf-cutting ants are represented in California by a single species, Acromyrmex versicolor(Pergande)   HNS , confined to the southern deserts. The harvested leaves are used to culture a basidiomycete fungus, which is the principal food of the ants.
