Stations. Petro-UFS—4 and 16.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—North Carolina to western Gulf of Mexico, Panamá, West Indies, Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil (Atol das Rocas, seamounts of North Brazilian Chain, and from Amapá to São Paulo) as Periclimenes americanus Kingsley ( Williams 1984; Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1998); as Periclimenes americanus (Kingsley) ( Almeida et al. 2012; Hernández-Ávilla et al. 2012; De Grave et al. 2015; Giraldes et al. 2015).
Ecological notes. From intertidal up to 105 m depth. Found on estuaries (under branches and mud bottom), on reefs and rocky shores, under rocks covered with algae and hydrozoans, and on rock crevices, also on concretions of calcareous algae, among barnacles on jetties, and on live coral ( Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1990; Almeida et al. 2012).
Remarks. Previously recorded as Anchistia americana Kingsley , Kemponia americana (Kingsley) , and Periclimenes (Harpilius) americanus ( Holthuis 1951; Bruce 2004; Almeida et al. 2007 b, 2012), and as Periclimenes americanus ( Kingsley 1878; Williams 1984; Ramos-Porto & Coelho 1998; Almeida et al. 2012). Observed on dead portions of corals Acropora prolifera (Lamarck) and A. cervicornis (Lamarck) , as Periclimenes americanus , and recorded on dead parts of Mussismilia hartii (Verrill) , M. hispida (Verrill) , and Siderastrea stellata (Verrill) ( Grajal & Laughlin 1984; Young 1986; Santos et al. 2012).
