Type Locality: Japan.
Vernacular Names: North Pacific Right Whale.
Synonyms: Eubalaena sieboldii ( Gray 1864) .
Distribution: North Pacific: temperate to to tropical waters; one stray record from Hawaii ( Scarff, 1986).
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered (as included in E. glacialis ); IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Reinstated by Rosenbaum et al. (2000), Brownell et al. (2001); see Hershkovitz (1961 b).
