Zoogeographic element. European (boreo-montane).
Distribution. Boreo-montane species distributed in Europe from Northern ( Sweden, Norway) to Western ( Ireland, England), Central and Eastern Europe (the Alps, the Carpathians), and South-Eastern (Balkan Peninsula: Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria).
Distribution in Romania. Epigeal records. Sibiu (KL77), Mehadia (FQ07) (all: Kuthy 1896); Şura Mare (KL78) (Ormay 1888; as Ptomaphagus tristis ); Azuga (LL83) (Fleck 1904); Braşov (LL85), Häşmaşul Mare (MM17), Predeal (LL83) (all: Petri 1912); Bucegi Mt. (LL82) (Ieniştea 1941), Bälan (MM06) (Csiki 1942); Rodnei Mt., 1269 m (LN25) (Nitzu et al. 2008); Coman (Maramureş) (LN19) (Niţu 2008); Säcel, Izv. Izei (LN07) (Merkl 2008); Giumaläu Mt. (LN85) (Nitzu & Olenici 2009); Piatra Craiului (LL63) (Nitzu et al. 2010). Hypogeal records. P. din Valea Bibartului (3152/1) (FS71), P de la Schitul Ialomiţei (1241/1) (LL72) (all: Decou 1964); P. 1200/8, 23, 45 and in MSS in Vârghişului gorge (LM82) (Nitzu et al. 2007); P. cu Gheaţä (Comarnic) (ER70), P.
