Diagnosis: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; male: intra-alar 1; mid femur with three preapical setae; wing hyaline with dark cloud running from R1 joining with a cloud on r-m; R2+3 with dark cloud at apex; dm-cu with a dark cloud; female: sternite VIII with strong spike-like setae.

Color: general body coloration brownish yellow; frons yellow, apex darkened; facialia and parafacialia white; frontalia and parafrontalia with dark apex and yellow base; antenna and palpus yellow; scutum with four dark stripes of grey pruinosity; fore femur with basal third dark brown; median and hind femora with basal two thirds dark brown; calypters and halter white; wing hyaline, with dark cloud running from R1 joining a cloud on r-m; R2+3 with dark cloud on apex; dm-cu with a dark cloud.

Male. Length. Body: 6.0– 6.2 mm; wing: 6.5–6.7 mm.

Head: eyes separated from each other by 0.09–0.12 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 11 pairs of frontal setae; ocellar seta large and parallel; postocellar seta large and divergent; inner vertical and outer vertical setae small and divergent.

Thorax: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; intra-alar 1; fore tibia with a distinct median anterodorsal seta; apex of fore tibia with setae on anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal, posteroventral surfaces; mid femur with a row of setae on posteroventral surface from base to middle; mid femur with three preapical setae, on dorsal, posterodorsal and posterior surfaces; apex of mid tibia with setae on anterior, posterodorsal, posteroventral, ventral and anteroventral surfaces; hind femur with a complete row of dorsal and anteroventral setae, and a row of posteroventral setae from base to middle; hind tibia with one median anterodorsal setaand three median anteroventral setae; hind tibia with anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal and ventral setae at apex; wing with one or two dorsal and one ventral setae at apex of stem vein.

Abdomen: fifth sternite slightly projected at base; epandrium slightly projected; cercus slightly blunt apically.

Female (differing as follows): Length. Body: 6.2–6.3 mm; wing: 6.6–6.8 mm; eyes separated from each other by 0.3–0.31 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 10–11 pairs of frontal convergent setae, except for upper two pairs, divergent; ocellar and postocellar setae large and divergent; inner vertical seta large and convergent, and outer vertical seta large and divergent; intra-alars 2; sternites VI and VII strongly sclerotized; sternite VIII with strong spike-like setae; epiproct with four setae, setae in a square-shaped arrangement (2:2).

Comments: Males of N. neosimilis have a slightly narrowed fifth sternite and cerci, in posterior view. Females are characterized by a long and prominent seta on the ovipositor.
