Type material. Holotype: female, SPAIN, Canary Islands, La Gomera, Túnel de Agulo, rocks in rich shrub flora, 4.XII.1987, 327/87, coordinates 28.19146°N, 17.19725°W, 270 m a.s.l., (Loc. 10) A. Fjellberg leg. (MZLU-VAR00001071). Paratypes: Túnel de Agulo, rocks in rich shrub flora, 4.XII.1987, 327/ 87, 270 m a.s.l., one juvenile on slide (MZLU-VAR00001072), Aeonium litter on cliffs, 4.XII.1987, 324/ 87, 280 m a.s.l., one female juvenile on slide (MZLU-VAR00001069); Euphorbia balsamifera litter, 280 m, 4.XII.1987 326/87, one female juvenile on slide (MZLU-VAR00001070).

Additional material: A. Fjellberg leg.: Canary Islands, La Gomera, Playa de Hermigua, Sonchus litter on slope, 4.XII.1987, 329/87, coordinates 28.17967°N, 17.18394°W, 40 m a.s.l., (Loc. 11) two juveniles on slide MZLU-VAR00001056 and MZLU-VAR00001057) and 11 specimens in ethyl alcohol (MZLU-VAR00001058 to MZLU-VAR00001068); Playa de Hermigua, Argyranthemum litter, slope, 4.XII.1987, 328/87, 40 m a.s.l., three specimens in ethyl alcohol (MZLU-VAR00001053 to MZLU-VAR00001055).

Description. Body length up to 1.27 mm, excluding antennae (Holotype: 0.90 mm; average 1.10 mm, n = 3). Ground colour very light blue or violet, with transverse wide bands on posterior Th II, whole Th III and Abd III and posterior IV; in addition, narrow bands on anterior Th II and posterior Abd III; there is some variation towards a more extensive covering of pigment in some specimens; legs and antennae darker ( Figs 2C View FIGURE 2 , 4C View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length (n = 3 for all measurements) 0.61 mm, 2.25 times the length of the head; Ant IV with apical vesicle simple (bilobed in one specimen); relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/1.84/2.01/2.66. Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae smooth ( Fig. 7E View FIGURE 7 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla end.

Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 3.03 (n = 3). Trochanteral organ with approximately 15 chaetae. Tibiotarsus not sub-segmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal teeth at 1/3 basal claw, between the laterals and the basis of the claw ( Fig. 7F View FIGURE 7 ). Empodium lanceolate, with serrated external lamella in leg III. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.20 and 0.26 mm, respectively (Holotype). Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching tip of subapical tooth ( Fig. 7G View FIGURE 7 ).

Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 7A–D View FIGURE 7 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-1-0-2-2/2-4/1-3/1-1-1/0-0-2-2-2. Head with three Mc on H1 area (An2, An3a1 and An3), H2 area with Mc A5. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with five Mc (m4, m 4i, a5 and m5). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with one Mc (a2), area A2 with three Mc (m3, m3ep and m3ea); Abd III with one Mc each on areas A3 (a1), A4 (a2) and A5 (m3); Abd IV with two Mc on A8 (A4 and B4), two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6).

Ecology. Found in a shrub hillside with flowers, Aeonium sp. and Euphorbia balsamifera , and in a similar area, but near the beach, with Sonchus sp. and Argyranthemum sp.

Etymology. The name of this new species is dedicated to Fernando de Amelahuige, an aboriginal who, at the time of the conquest, would maintain the island of La Gomera as a unique kingdom under his authority.

Remarks. This species has a characteristic colour pattern with five more or less broad transversal bands on the body—anterior Th II, complete Th III, posterior Abd II, complete Abd III and posterior Abd IV—not shared with any other Entomobrya species. If the macrochaetotaxy of Abd III is considered, only five species of the genus share the presence of the simplified formula for these tergites (1-1-1), but these species have a different number of Mc on Th II and Abd II: E. colettae Cassagnau, 1964 (2-3/2-3), E. corticalis ( Nicolet, 1842) (1-3/0-2) after Rondani (1861), E. nigrocincta Denis, 1923 (2-3/1-2), E. quadrata Lee & Park, 1984 (3-5/2-4) and E. stebaevae Jordana, Potapov & Baquero, 2011 (1-2/1-2). In addition, the new species has a great reduction in Mc on Abd IV, with only six Mc on areas A8–A10 (simplified formula for Abd IV: 0-0-2-2-2).
