Limipolycystis falx View in CoL n. sp. Artois, Willems & Schockaert

( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 E–F, 2C–E)

Holotype. A whole mount, France, Bay of Marseille, near Cap Morgiou, coarse-grained sand, 67 m deep, 7 October 1967 ( SMNH Type-8313).

Other material. One whole mount, France, Bay of Marseille, Cap Canaille, near Cassis, 16 m deep, finegrained sand, 8 October 1966 (HU V.2.43). Two whole mounts, France, Bay of Marseille, localities in the bay proper (exact locations unknown), gravel with muddy sand, 32–47 m deep, 30 December 1966 and 26 July 1967 (HU V.2.44–45).

Etymology. Species name refers to the stylet, which has the shape of a scythe. Falx (Lat.) : scythe.

Diagnosis. Species of Limipolycystis with two eyes. Prostate vesicle of type III, well developed. Stylet an accessory stylet type II, 76–86 µm long, scythe shaped, proximally with gutter-like projection. Seminal receptacle consisting of a funnel-like, a vesicular and a tubular part.

Description. The animals are very small, approximately 0.3–0.4 mm long (measured on whole mounts). They are colourless with two eyes.

As far as could be seen on the live animals and the whole mounts, the internal organization is identical to that of L. sicilicula n. sp. The stylet is 76–86 µm long (x = 81 µm; n = 4) and is slightly curved over its whole length, giving the overall appearance of a scythe ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E; 2C–E). Proximally it carries an elongated gutter-like projection that sits on the convex side of the stylet (indicated with an arrow in Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 E, 2C–F), guarding the opening, which is orientated towards the concave side.

The seminal receptacle ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 F, 2C) consists of a funnel-like structure, connected to the bursa, a small vesicle and a sclerotised tube, connected to the proximal part of the oviduct.
