Dohrniphora luteicincta Borgmeier View in CoL

( Figs 189–190, 297)

Dohrniphora luteicincta Borgmeier, 1960: 282 View in CoL , fig. 36.

Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Rio de Janeiro, 5.xii.1949, T. Borgmeier [ LACM ENT 271195 About LACM ] ( MZSP; examined). Note that the holotype consists only of a hind leg glued to a card mount. The minuten pin with the body is gone, and the mount has dermestid beetle frass on it.

Species recognition. This species can be recognized by the elongate basal group of peglike setae and the two more distal white membranous areas. It is most similar to D. jalizanoi , but can be separated by characters in couplet 112 of the key. The most obvious difference between the two is the bicolored anepisternum in D. luteicincta ; in D. jalizanoi it is dark brown.

Description. Body length: 1.5–2.06 mm. Head: Frons brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, enlarged, brown. Palpus slightly enlarged, inflated, yellow. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta two-thirds length of posterior seta. Pleuron with proepisternum and dorsum of anepisternum brown, rest of pleuron yellowish-brown. Mean costal length 0.54 wing length, range 0.53–0.54. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3–4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa light brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, round. Posterior face of hind femur with long basal double to briefly triple (in basal one-third) line of peglike setae; more distally with two carinae defining dorsally open concavity; in light microscopy, carinate areas appearing as small basal and larger distal loop-shaped white membranous areas ( Figs 189–190, 297). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, with faint brown transverse marking, tergites 2–6 dark brown, with varied amounts of yellow anteriorly and medially, decreasing in more posterior tergites. Venter of abdomen yellow, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow.

Distribution. South America.
