Muda View in CoL View at ENA undescribed species B

Species removed from the Thai Cicada fauna

The following species are removed from the Thai fauna. The rationale for removal is listed after each species.

Chremistica bimaculata ( Olivier, 1790) View in CoL . Thai specimens determined as C. bimaculata View in CoL are actually an undescribed species ( Yaakop et al. 2005).

Cryptotympana vesta ( Distant, 1904c) View in CoL . These specimens are probably C. gracilis Hayashi (Hayashi 1987b) View in CoL . Considering the distribution of C. vesta View in CoL , an Indian species (Metcalf, 1963a), this is probably correct.

Kalamata javanensis Distant, 1905c. Siam is listed as a question in Moulton (1923), who then states the species is restricted to Java.

Terpnosia andersoni Distant, 1892 View in CoL . Location in Ishihara (1961) is Nam Tha, Laos, not Thailand. Other localities include India, China, and Burma (Metcalf, 1963a), so the species may eventually be collected in Thailand.

Terpnosia psecas ( Walker, 1850) View in CoL . Moulton (1923) said it was “possible to refer a specimen from Siam ” but could not conclusively identify a specimen from Thailand. Because no one else has reported a specimen from Thailand, the species is removed from the fauna.

Platylomia radha ( Distant, 1881) View in CoL . Indochina specimens of P. radha View in CoL were reassigned to the resurrected P. operculata ( Boulard, 2005b) View in CoL . Platylomia radha View in CoL is primarily an Indian species (Metcalf, 1963b).

Platylomia similis ( Distant, 1888b) View in CoL . Specimens from Moulton (1923) are actually an undescribed species ( Beuk, 1998). Platylomia similis View in CoL is an Indian species (Metcalf, 1963b).

Platylomia spinosa ( Fabricius, 1787) View in CoL . Beuk (1996) questions accuracy of labels in his revision of the group. Beuk, 1999: 12–25, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 –12, lists Ban Tong 8o 03’00”N 100o 31’00”E; Phu Khieo, Chaiyapummh (Chaiyaphum) District, N.E. Thailand, 800 as locations in Thailand. The species is found in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei ( Beuk, 1999).

Dundubia bifasciata Liu, 1940 View in CoL . Species synonymized with D. hainanensis (Distant, 1901) View in CoL by Beuk (1996); but this species is not found in Thailand ( Beuk 1996). Thai specimens transferred to D. nagarasingha View in CoL by Beuk (1996). The species is reported from India, China, and Japan (Metcalf, 1963b).

Pomponia adusta ( Walker, 1850) View in CoL . Species is restricted to Java. Thai specimens are considered to be examples of P. pendelburyi ( Boulard 2001b, 2005e).
