Type locality: Port Jackson , Australia .
Synonyms: Protella haswelliana Mayer, 1882 .
Distribution. World: Australia (Mayer 1882), Mozambique ( Barnard 1955), India ( Mayer 1890).
India: South India Ecoregion: Tamil Nadu ( Mayer 1890 as Metaprotella haswelliana f. taprobanica Mayer, 1890; Sundara Raj 1927).
Remarks: Report from India requires confirmation. According to Takeuchi & Lowry (2007) since the adult specimen of Metaprotella haswelliana f. taprobanica Mayer, 1890 is not in the collection, it is not clear whether this is the same species as Metaprotella haswelliana (Mayer 1882) or a different species.
