Rhagovelia santanderi sp. n.
Type material. HOLOTYPE, apt M, allotype apt F: COLOMBIA, Santander, Puerto Parra, Vereda Campo Capote, Quebrada Borojo, 13 III 2008, leg. Jaimes ( ICN). PARATYPES, same data as holotype, 7 apt M, 7 apt F ( ICN).
Color and pilosity. General color dark brown; genital segments, greater part of antennae, rostrum and legs, bright black. Anterior transverse band of pronotum, basal third of first antennal segment; acetabula, coxae and trochanters of fore and hind legs, yellow. Venter grey. Antennal segment I bearing six long, stiff, erect, black setae, two setae of this type also present near middle of segment II; legs with the usual pubescence and setae.
Apterous male. Length 2.12; maximum width 1.06. Length of antennal segments I −IV: 0.62, 0.44, 0.44, 0.40; pronotum shorter than the length of head (0.18/0.32), L/W: 0.18/0.92; length of exposed mesonotum 0.68; length of exposed metanotum at midline 0.08.
Unarmed trochanters. Anterior tibia, apical third slightly curved and flattened. Posterior femur slightly increased (L/W: 1.10/0.30), ventral surface in distal half with a row of 6 spines, beginning with a sharp, slender, forward-angling tooth and decreasing in size distally, the last smaller spine ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 55 − 60 ); hind tibia straight, with two apical spines near to apex and a spur at apex.
Proportions of male legs as follows: fore femur/tibia/ tarsal 1/ tarsal 2: 0.82/0.94/0.04/0.18; middle femur, length/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2/tarsal 3: 1.25/0.87/0.06/0.46/0.72; hind femur length/ tibia/ tarsal 1/tarsal 2/tarsal 3: 1.10/1.26/0.06/0.10/0.30.
Median length of abdominal tergites as follows: I, III, and VI: 0.14; II, IV, and V: 0 12, VII: 0.24, VIII: 0.16; horizontal connexiva. Venter lacking longitudinal medial carina ; ventrite VII none depressed; sternite VII>VI>V (0.36, 0.18, 0.16, respectively), genital segments well developed, proctiger ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 − 5 ), parameres (L/W: 0.10/0.08, Fig. 28 View FIGURES 25 − 54 ).
Apterous female. Length 2.32, maximum width 1.18. Length of antennal segments I −IV: 0.54, 0.42, 0.40, 0.40. Median length of abdominal tergites as follows: I to V equal: 0.16, VI: 0.18, VII −VIII: 0.20; sternite VII>VI>V (0.40, 0.22, 0.20, respectively), connexiva horizontal.
Macropterous form. Unknown.
Type locality. Rhagovelia santanderi sp. n., was collected in Puerto Parra, located at 6º 39' 06'' N, 74º 03' 39'' W, 105 m, in the Middle Magdalena River Valley, on the west slope of the Cordillera Oriental, in the Santander department of the Colombian Andes. The average air temperature as this site is 26−32 ºC.
Etymology. The name “ santanderi ” refers to the Santander department, where the specimens were collected.
Comparative notes. Individuals of Rhagovelia santanderi sp. n. may be distinguished by comparative length of the pronotum in relation to the mesonotum (ratio 3.7); the posterior femur 3.6 longer than wider, with a large spine in the middle, followed by 5 smaller ones ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 55 − 60 ); the venter lacking a longitudinal medial carina ; the characteristic male proctiger, with a bell-shaped cone ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 − 5 ); and by the male paramere with a convex ventral margin and concave a dorsal margin ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 25 − 54 ). The male paramere is similar to that of R. bisignata Bacon, 1948 ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 25 − 54 ), but that species differs from R. santanderi in regard to other characteristics: length pronotum/length mesonotum (ratio 5.0); posterior femur not incrassate (ratio L/W, 12.2), armed with one spine followed by two or three small spines; hind tibia bearing only an apical spine; and the venter bearing a slight longitudinal median carina .
