Material examined. Stn 102, one colony with few stems, up to 5 mm high, on gravel (NIWA 117478).
Remarks. The polyps are red and small and their tentacles have a thorny appearance. The cnidome consists of larger (12–13 x 6–7 µm) and smaller (6.5– 7 x 3 µm) microbasic euryteles.
Ecology and distribution. In Antarctic waters, a shelf species found at depths between 10 ( Puce et al. 2002) and 702 m (Peña Cantero 2009); present material at 536 m, epilithic on gravel. Epibiont on polychaete tube and sponge ( Soto Àngel & Peña Cantero 2015) and basibiont for other hydroids (Peña Cantero 2009; Peña Cantero et al. 2013). Gonophores in January ( Puce et al. 2002), December (Peña Cantero et al. 2013) and April ( Soto Àngel & Peña Cantero 2015).
Species with an Australian-Antarctic distribution (Peña Cantero 2009). In Antarctic waters known from Tethys Bay in the Ross Sea ( Puce et al. 2002; Peña Cantero et al. 2013) and the Balleny Islands (Peña Cantero 2009), in East Antarctica , and from the South Sandwich Islands and the Discovery Bank ( Soto Àngel & Peña Cantero 2015), in West Antarctica . Present material from off Cape Adare.
