Rypticus saponaceus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801)

UFBA 0 2802 (2 specimens) from Kia. Carlin et al. (2003) noted that the fish from the Cape Verde Islands and from São Tomé Island tentatively identified as Rypticus saponaceus  are so genetically distinct from western Atlantic specimens that they may belong to a different species. A morphological comparison between eastern and western Atlantic animals is being carried out by C. L. Sampaio, C. E. L. Ferreira and M. Craig.
