Note: there is controversy concerning the morphological separation of Amblyomma eburneum and Amblyomma gemma , as discussed in detail by Tendeiro (1959b). The larva and nymph of Amblyomma eburneum described in Borght-Elbl (1977) are not recognized by Voltzit and Keirans (2003); further, the larva of this tick as described in Borght-Elbl (1977) differs morphologically from the description in Voltzit and Keirans (2003), raising questions about the correct identification of Amblyomma eburneum , as well as the validity of the descriptions and redescriptions above, apart from those of Gerstäcker (1873).
