An Australasian, Oriental and Palearctic species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Cervidae . All parasitic stages have been found on Carnivora : Viverridae ; adult ticks have been collected from Galliformes : Phasianidae , and Passeriformes : Timaliidae and Turdidae ; adults and nymphs have been recovered from Mammalia (several orders); immature stages have been collected from Rodentia : Sciuridae , Scandentia : Tupaiidae , and Passeriformes : Corvidae . Haemaphysalis cornigera is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: Camicas et al. (1998) list the larva and nymph of Haemaphysalis cornigera as undescribed, but the descriptions and redescriptions above are accepted here. Guglielmone et al. (2014) state that there are uncertainties concerning some of the published data for Haemaphysalis cornigera and that such data should be considered cautiously. This species has been known in Japanese tick literature as Haemaphysalis ias , but redescriptions under this name are not included in the above lists. See also Haemaphysalis taiwana .
