An Oriental species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Suidae ; larvae and nymphs are usually collected from Rodentia : Sciuridae . Adult ticks have been recovered from Mammalia (several orders), with rare records from Squamata : Pythonidae ; immature stages have also been taken from Carnivora : Canidae , Rodentia : Muridae , and Squamata : Colubridae . Dermacentor compactus is a rare parasite of humans.
