Note: Santos Dias (1956b) states that one male and four females of Haemaphysalis minuta collected in Sri Lanka were kept in the Museum Nationale d’Histoire Naturelle (Paris) as types of Haemaphysalis spinigera . These ticks are mentioned as the second lot of Haemaphysalis spinigera in Neumann (1897, page 354), but according to Santos Dias (1956b), bona fide Haemaphysalis spinigera are deposited in the first lot. Trapido et al. (1964a) state that one relevant morphological character of segment 3 of the palps of the female of Haemaphysalis minuta was not included in the description of Santos Dias (1956) but did not question its validity. Nevertheless, the female of Haemaphysalis minuta is listed as undescribed in Camicas et al. (1998).
