An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are
usually found on Aves (several orders). There are occasional records of adults and immature stages from Artiodactyla : Bovidae , Primates : Indriidae , and Rodentia : Sciuridae ; adult ticks alone have sometimes been recovered from Carnivora : Canidae , Lagomorpha : Leporidae , and Rodentia : Hystricidae ; immature stages have been found on Carnivora : Viverridae . Haemaphysalis hoodi is a very rare parasite of humans.
