Genus Meteuthria Thiele, 1912
Type species. Euthria martensi Strebel, 1905 by original designation.
Several species were included by different authors in the genus Meteuthria . Dell (1990) included “ Anomacme ” multituberculata Castellanos et al., 1987 in Meteuthria because of some similarity of the radula of his new subspecies of Meteuthria (i.e. M. multituberculata rossiana ). The radula of “ A.” multituberculata is illustrated here ( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10. A – E H–I) and it is very different from the types of both genera: Meteuthria (i.e. M. martensi ) and Anomacme (i.e. A. smithi , Figs 10B, C View FIGURE 10. A – E ).
The distinctive protoconch and the presence of a very small rachidian (not illustrated by Dell 1990: 169 fig. 296) indicate that neither “ Anomacme ” multituberculata nor the subspecies M. multituberculata rossiana are referable to either Meteuthria or Anomacme . Only two species ( M. martensi and M. batialis n. sp.) are here considered as belonging to Meteuthria .
