The known coleopterofauna of Bitterfeld amber composes 14 species belonging to 12 genera and 9 families ( Kaupp et al. 2001; Perkovsky 2007; Kirejtshuk & Kurochkin 2010; Vitali 2011; Alekseev 2014; Alekseev & Grzymala 2015; Háva & Alekseev 2015; Lyubarsky & Perkovsky 2016). Nine beetle species are primarily described from Bitterfeld amber (i.e., their holotypes are from Bitterfeld amber): Ipelates weitshati ; Microsoronia hoffeinsorum ; Neolitochropus hoffeinsorum ; Triplax contienensis ; Palaeocnopus saeticornis ; P. glabricornis ; P.
mara ; Palaeotetropium saxonicum ; Europsimus germanicus , and one of them ( Palaeocnopus densipunctatus ) has been described with a paratype in Bitterfeld and holotype in Baltic amber. Six beetles are known in this amber deposit only: I. weitshati View in CoL ; M. hoffeinsorum ; N. hoffeinsorum ; T. contienensis ; P. saxonicum ; E. germanicus . Twothirds of actually known number of beetles from Bitterfeld amber (8 species) are known also from Baltic amber, and one species ( Crepidodera decolorata ) is recorded for Rovno, Baltic and Bitterfeld amber. Only four genera are known from Bitterfeld amber and not registered in Baltic amber until now (Neolitochropus Lyubarsky et Perkovsky 2016; Triplax Herbst, 1793 View in CoL ; Palaeotetropium Vitali, 2011 ; Europsimus Vitali, 2011 ). Three of them (the monotypic phalacrid and cerambycid genera) are palaeoendemic. Based on the available data, it could be tentatively suggested that the beetles of Bitterfeld and Baltic ambers are identical, and that the Bitterfeld amber assemblage could be considered as part of the Eocene Baltic amber (see also Szwedo & Sontag 2013).
The fossil species of beetles from different ambers are mostly described and known from single specimens (singletons) at present. Here we describe a new species based on numerous exemplars from different collections. This provides some insight into the range of variation within a taxon. The discovery and description of such material in Baltic amber also serves to emphasize the potential for further improvement in our knowledge concerning Coleoptera in Eocene View in CoL ambers. The number of described Chrysomelidae View in CoL from Baltic amber has increased during the last three years from 7 species ( Alekseev 2013) to 26 species ( Bukejs & Konstantinov 2013; Bukejs & Nadein 2013, 2014, 2015; Moseyko & Kirejtshuk 2013; Biondi 2014; Bukejs 2014; Bukejs & Bezděk 2014; Bukejs & Chamorro 2015; Bukejs et al. 2015; Legalov 2016; Nadein et al. 2016). With a discovery curve such as this, it is almost certain that new taxa from Baltic amber can and will be found.
