Celmisia hieraciifolia var. oblonga Kirk (1895: 328)
status

25. Celmisia hieraciifolia var. oblonga Kirk (1895: 328) View in CoL .

Type :— NEW ZEALAND. South Island, Mt Stokes, Jan 1894, J. Macmahon s.n. (holotype WELT SP3286 !) .

Notes:— In the description of var. oblonga, Kirk (1895) mentioned P.A. Macmahon as a collector, but the type specimen indicates J. (Joseph) Macmahon. The same confusion occurs with the description of Celmisia rutlandii Kirk , as was noted by Given (1980: 137) and by Godley (1991) who said: “I cannot trace any such person [referring to P.A. Macmahon]. In any case, the original gathering of C. rutlandii is labelled as collected by J. Macmahon”. See comments in the introduction for possible causes of this tangle.
