Diagnosis. Males of this species are similar to Wellsomina saeta and W. furca , having fused inferior appendages with prominent shoulders, but the superior appendages have short apical setae, and the fused inferior appendages have a more deeply incised central notch or split.
Description. Head, body and wings light brown; wings similar to those of W. stuarti ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 11 ), length of forewing: male 2.5–2.8 mm, female 2.6–2.8 mm. Wing venation: forewing length about 3.5 times width, each with forks 2, 3, 4 and 5 present; fork 2 relatively short, fork 2 footstalk relatively long, length about 2.0–2.3 times length of cross-vein r -m, length of fork 2 about 1.6–2.0 times length of fork 3; fork 3 very short, length of fork 3 about 0.5–0.8 times length of footstalk, footstalk of fork 3 very long, length about 3.6–5.0 times length of cross-vein m. Hind wing length about 4 times width, each with forks 2, 3 and 5 present; short, fork 2 footstalk relatively long, length about 4.2–5.0 times length of cross-vein r -m.
Male. Tergum X membranous ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 27 – 35 ). Superior appendages relatively short, laterally compressed, each with 1 or 2 robust spine-like setae dorsoapically ( Figs 30–32 View FIGURES 27 – 35 ); in lateral view, broad basally, distally tapered slightly, broad, truncate process dorsally. Phallus simple, tube-like, with retracted elongate spine(s) ventrally ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 27 – 35 ). Inferior appendages strongly depressed, in ventral view, fused in basal 2/3rds, with prominent shoulders laterally and pair of digitiform processes distally, separated by deep V shaped notch ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 27 – 35 ); in lateral view, relatively slender, narrowed slightly in distal 1/3rd ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 27 – 35 ).
Female. Genitalia with abdominal sternite VIII relatively broad, basally with mesal process slender, digitiform; segment IX relatively short, broad-based, tapered slightly in distal 1/4th, segment X relatively long, slender bearing 1 pair of small cerci ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 45 – 53 ).
Holotype male: Northern Territory, ARRS S. Alligator R. above Fisher Ck jn (about 13°34'S, 132°35'E), blue lt tr., 24 May 1988, PS and AW ( NMV, T- 20802).

Alligator R. below BHP camp, blue lt tr., 25 May 1988, PS and AW; 1 male, Kambolgie Ck, 6V lt tr., 25–26 May 1988, AW and PS; 1 male, 5 females (specimen CT- 534 figured), SAR site 1, 30 Sep 1988, [collector not specified]; 1 male (specimen CT-469 figured), Jim Jim Falls campsite, 13°16'S, 132°49'E, 13 Aug 1996, I. Etymology. Gumurr - Northern Territory Aboriginal word for escarpment (locality- the Alligator Rivers Region).
Remarks. Wellsomina gumurr is recorded from the Alligator Rivers Region (ARR) of the Northern Territory (latitudinal range 12°45'– 13°44'S).
