Hystrichopsylla (Hystroceras) cryptotis Acosta & Morrone, 2005 View in CoL
Material examined— Hidalgo: Tlanchinol, P. f u r v u s, 8.II.1997, 2 males, B. Salceda; Tenango de Doria, 3 males, 1 female.
Remarks—It was first recorded from Queretaro and Oaxaca on Cryptotis sp. These specimens were collected in a cloud forest where ample moisture is available for larval development. Hystrichopsylla Taschenberg , are considered nest fleas and are found infrequently on hosts ( Hastriter & Haas 2005). Hystrichopsylla cryptotis is distinguished from other species of Hystrichopsylla by the presence of seven spines in the genal comb and its large size ( Acosta & Morrone 2005). This is the first record on P. furvus and constitutes the most southern record for the genus.
