Description
FEMALE: (n = 8) Body vermiform, 266 (262–268), 50 (48–51) wide, 45 (43–46) thick; light yellow. Gnathosoma 30 (29–30), projecting obliquely down. Prodorsal shield 35 (34–36), 38 (36–40) wide; only submedian lines present, prodorsal shield with granules. Dorsal tubercles ahead of rear shield margin, 16 (15–16) apart, scapular setae (sc) 10 (9–11) projecting centrad. Coxae: coxal plates with granules; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 5 (5–6), proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 20 (18–23), proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 30 (28–32). Sternal line present. Legs with usual series of setae. Legs I 25 (23–27), femur 7 (6–7), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 10 (9–11); genu 5 (4–5), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 30 (28–31); tibia 5 (4–5), paraxial tibial setae (l’) 7 (6–7), setae located at center; tarsus 5 (4–5); tarsal empodium simple, 4rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Legs II 23 (21–25), femur 7 (6–7), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 5 (5–6); genu 4 (4–5), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 11 (10–13); tibia 5 (4–5); tarsus 5 (4–5); tarsal empodium simple, 4rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Opisthosoma: dorsal opisthosoma with 81 (79–83) annuli, with elliptical microtubercles on rear annular margins, ventrally with 84 (82–85) annuli, with elliptical microtubercles. Setae c2 20 (19–22) on ventral annulus 12; setae d 35 (34–38) on ventral annulus 25; setae e 30 (28–33) on ventral annulus 48; setae f 18 (16–19) on 6th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 4 (3–4). Female genitalia 15 (14–15), 22 (21–22) wide, coverflap with 8 longitudinal ridges, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 15 (13–16).
MALE: (n = 4) 230 (228–231), 48 (47–49) wide; genitalia 8 (7–8), 20 (19–20) wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 10 (8–11).
Type data
Holotype, female, from Pinus armandi Franch. (Pinaceae) , Baiyun (33°39.86’N, 111°49.58’E), Song County, Henan Province, P. R. China, 17 July 2004, coll. X.F. Xue. Paratypes, 7 females and 4 males, with the same data as holotype.
Relation to host
Vagrant on leaf surface. No damage to the host was observed.
Etymology
Derived from the specific epithet of the type host plant, armandi .
Remarks
This species is similar to Eriophyes mangifera Kuang & Cheng, 1992 ( Kuang & Cheng, 1992) , but can be differentiated by setae h1 present (setae h1 absent in E. mangifera ), only submedian lines present (median, admedian and submedian lines present and discontinuous in E. mangifera ), coxal plates II with granules (coxal plates II smooth in E. mangifera ), empodium 4rayed (empodium 5rayed in E. mangifera ).
Distribution
China (Henan).
