( Figs. 9, 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12. 7 , 31)
Lasiopogon hasanicus Lehr, 1984: 703 View in CoL
Medium to large flies, 11–14.5 mm, dark brown/black gray species. It is the largest of the South Korean genus Lasiopogon View in CoL , with thin gray tergal bands. The male’s gonostylus ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12. 7 ) is distinctly rounded with sharp apices, crescent shaped, sometimes seen without dissection.
Adult. Male.
Head: Face silver/gold tomentose, integument of gibbosity sometimes black; vertex black with light gold pollen and long black curved hair. Mystax hair black. Genal hair long, fine, white merging dorsally into finer, irregular white hair with twisted apices merging into short black occipital bristles and longer proclinate black postocular bristles. Antenna black with silver/gold pollen; black bristles. Relative lengths of segments: 3>F2+3>1>2. Thorax: Scutum light and dark brown. All bristles black. Light brown paramedian stripes disappearing apically. Dark brown prescutellar spots. Irregular dense acrostical hair; long dense posterior dorsocentrals. Chaetotaxy with: 1 posthumeral, 3 presutural, 2 supraalar, and 3 postalar bristles. Scutellum integumental black with long fine black hair; a basal thin fringe of fine gold tomentum; disc ringed with irregular dense long black bristles. Pleura gold tomentose with black and white hair and black bristles. Katatergal bristles in 2 rows confined to the apical posterior edge of plate. Posterior margin of anepisternum with exceptionally long black bristles and hair, a few short white ventral hairs. Legs: Black with gold pollen, black bristles and white hair. Posterior coxal peg absent. Femora with long dense fringes of fine white hair. All tibia with black bristles. Wings: Tinged lightly gray. Joint of basal medial cell and cell m3 broad. Halter knob and stalk dark yellow, no spots. Abdomen: Male. Tergites mostly brown/black with thin gray apical bands. Tergite 1 with lateral white hair and strong black bristles. All tergites with long white hair; medial brown and black hair. Male genitalia ( Figs 9 & 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12. 7 ). Epandria integumental black with gold pollen. Gonostylus in ventral view distinctly rounded and sharp on apices, crescent shaped.
Female. Similar to male except tergite 1 lateral hair and bristles much shorter.
Material examined. Kyongsanbuk Province. 9 ɗ, 17 Ψ (6 pairs in cop.): 17/V/2006, Yongdok–Gun, Taejin Beach, 36°34’47”N, 129°25’04”E.
Field notes. Pre-copulating pairs were observed grappling while rolling down small sand dunes, landing stationary with one fly situated above, then assuming a tail-to-tail position ( Fig. 31). See Table 1 for prey and seasonality.
