Scaphoideus coniceus Li, 2011 View in CoL [in Li, Dai, & Xing, 2011: 252]

Body including forewings at rest moderately elongate. Head including eyes as wide as pronotum. Crown triangularly produced anteriorly, longer medially than next to eyes, medial length 1.5 times as long as width between eyes; vertex narrowly rounded to face, shagreened, disc of vertex smooth ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F, 3C). Eyes fairly large ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F). Ocelli situated on anterior margin of crown and separate from eye by distance less than ocellar diameter. Frontoclypeus narrow, longer than width between eyes. Clypellus widened apically. Gena slightly incised below eye ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 K). Pronotum slightly shorter than head, with anterior margin roundly produced and posterior margin slightly concave. Scutellum nearly equal to length of head, suture curved ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, 3C). Forewings semitransparent, with appendix wide, outer anteapical cell acute apically; inner anteapical cell close basally; two reflexed cross veins between outer anteapical cell and costal margin, with basal reflexed vein basad of outer anteapical cell ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F).

Body pale brown with whitish longitudinal stripe from tip of vertex to near apex of front wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F). vertex pale with 1 spot apically and 2 round spots next to eyes and ocelli ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, 3C); frontoclypeus pale yellow with two narrow blackish stripe along apex margin; clypellus and lorum pale yellow; gena pale yellow with blackish marking below antenna ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 K). Pronotum and scutellum brown on lateral margin, scutellum with chocolate brown patch at center of basal margin ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F, 3C). Forewings transparent with brown veins, darker at base and apex ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F).

Male genitalia. Pygofer elongate, slightly tapering posteriorly in lateral aspect, with tuft of long macrosetae subapically and scattered short macrosetae on basal half ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 A, B). Subgenital plate triangular, broad basally and apical margin rounded, with 2–3 macrosetae at base and fine setae along lateral margin ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 C). Style with broad anterior part and well developed preapical lobe; apophysis curved laterally with several fine setae at base ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 C, D). Connective Y-shaped with well developed arm and stem; connective processes asymmetrical, divergent, tapered and twisted apically ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 C, E). Aedeagus with well developed dorsal apodeme, shaft robust at base, narrowed abruptly at midlength in lateral view and with small denticuli on the dorsal surface near the midlength, pair of acute processes at subapex extended anterad, perpendicular to shaft in lateral aspect; gonopore subapical on dorsal surface ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 F, G).

Female genitalia. Seventh sternum caudally produced as trapezoid in middle in ventral view ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B, F). Other characteristics ( Figs. 14 View FIGURE 14 D–F, 15D–F, 16D–F) as in S. albovittatus Matsumura.

Measurements. Male 3.8–4.6mm long, 0.9–1.1mm wide across eyes. Female 4.5–4.8mm, 1.0– 1.1mm wide across eyes.

Material examined. 1♂, Hainan Prov., Bawang Mountain, 25.v.1983, Zhang Yalin; 1♂, Hainan Prov., Liangyuan, 1.vi.1983, Zhang Yalin; 1♂, Hainan Prov., Jianfeng Mountain, 17.vii.2009, Wang Shuye; 3♀, Hainan Prov., Baisha Mountain, 22.v.2007, Duan Yani; 2♀, Hainan Prov., Qixian Mountain, 29.vii.2009, Duan Yani and Gao Xia; 1♀, Hainan Prov., Diaoluo Mountain, 2.vi.2006, Duan Yani ( NWAUF); 1♂, Yunnan Prov., Mengla, 16.vi.1982, Jin Gentao (SEM).

Distribution. China (Hainan, Yunnan)

Remarks. This species is very similar to S. bifidus Viraktamath & Mohan in external shape and male genitalia, but differs from the latter in having the aedeagal shaft more robust at base, narrowed abruptly at midlength in lateral view, with acute processes at the subapex perpendicular to the shaft in lateral aspect and by the asymmetrical connective processes twisted near the apex.
