Heteragrion cinnamomeum Selys, 1862 View in CoL

Figs. 13 (♂ app), 32E–G (♂ thx, head)

Heteragrion cinnamomeum Selys 1862: 26 View in CoL [24 reprint] (description of male as possible race of H. aurantiacum View in CoL ); Selys 1886: 60 (as synonym of H. aurantiacum View in CoL ); Williamson 1919: 25–26, Figs. 123–124 (questions authorship of taxon and synonymy with H. aurantiacum View in CoL , suggests synonymy with H. ochraceum View in CoL , illustration of male appendages in dorsal and lateral views); Santos 1970: 149 (compares with H. consors View in CoL , stating they are similar in color but easily distinguished by appendages); Lencioni 2005: 139 (as synonym of H. ochraceum View in CoL , illustrations from Williamson 1919).

Heteragrion macilentum Hagen View in CoL in Selys 1862: 26–27 [24–25 reprint] (in part) (description of male from Brazil and female); Selys 1886: 60–61 (misspelled as H. macitentum , diagnosis from H. aurantiacum View in CoL ); Williamson 1919: 23 (discussion); St. Quentin 1970: 259 (lectotype designation); De Marmels 2004: 442–443, Figs. 14–17 (discussion of lectotype, illustration of male head, prothorax and appendages); Lencioni 2005: 135, Figs. 84A–E (mention from Brazil, illustrations from De Marmels 2004); von Ellenrieder & Garrison 2007: 6, Figs: 2J–o (lectotype synonymized with H. cinnamomeum View in CoL , illustration of male appendages in mediodorsal, dorsal and lateral views).

Types. Male syntypes in IRSNB (not examined).

Additional material examined. None.

Illustration made from following specimens. H. cinnamomeum —Photos of the syntype male (Fig. 13A, 13B, 32E, 32F, 32G).

Distribution. Probably in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.

Diagnosis. Very pale species (similar to H. consors ). Cercus in lateral view: dorsobasal expansion present. Remainder almost straight (Fig. 13B). Cercus in mediodorsal view: apical portion less than half length of basal and medial portions, which are subequal. Ventral expansion not present. Medial process apically inclined, narrow with bifurcate apex, internal arm longer and sharply pointed, a sclerotized ridge ending at the external arm (Fig. 13A).

Remarks. As stated by von Ellenrieder & Garrison (2007: 6), based on the evidence and preponderance of specimens (males) in the IRSNB authorship should be attributed to Selys.
