Genus Acromyrmex Mayr View in CoL

These leafcutting ants are represented in California by a single species, Acromyrmex versicolor (Pergande) , confined to the southern deserts. The harvested leaves are used to culture a basidiomycete fungus, which is the principal food of the ants.
