Colletes fodiens ( Fourcroy 1785)

? Apis fosorius Razoumowsky 1789: 220 -221, Ƥ (type locality: Switzerland).

Apis pallidicincta Kirby 1802: 295 (type locality: England).

Colletes kirgisica Radoszkowski 1867: 77 –78, pl. 3, fig. 3, Ƥ (type locality: “Steppes de Kirghises”, South Ural). Syn. nov. Colletes fodiens kirgisicus: Noskiewicz 1936: 302 .

Colletes fodiens hispanicus Noskiewicz 1936: 303 -304, Ƥ, 3 (type locality: Spain). Syn. nov.

Colletes kirgisicus Radoszkowski 1867 and C. fodiens hispanicus Noskiewicz 1936 are here synonymized with Colletes fodiens ( Fourcroy 1785) . Colletes kirgisicus was described based on slight differences of the colour of pilosity and the breadth of apical metasomal tergal and sternal hair bands. These characters vary with the climatic conditions the bees live in (steppic to temperate) and are unsuitable for a taxonomic differentiation. The description of C. fodiens hispanicus is also largely based on variable traits of pilosity and subtle difference in sculpture that are changeable. The slightly broader shape of the male S7 is also not a stable character showing a broad transitional zone in northern Spain and southern France. As a species C. fodiens is well characterized with the intraspecific morphological and colour variation not exceeding that of other widespread Colletes species like C. cunicularius ( Kuhlmann 2000) , C. floralis or C. chengtehensis (Kuhlmann 2009) . Thus, it is not justified to retain subspecies in C. fodiens .

Distribution in Russia. European part ( Osytshnjuk et al. 1978), *Tyva Republic.
