Type species — Liopus coenobita Erichson, 1847 View in CoL (subsequent designation, Monné, 1982: 96).

Diagnosis. Scape with open cicatrix; lateral tubercles of the prothorax placed near middle or closer to posterior angle; elytra without humeral carina or centrobasal crest. Number of species currently included: 14.
