Tropidurus insulanus Rodrigues, 1987 View in CoL
Type-locality. Cachimbo, Pará, Brazil.
Pertinent taxonomic references. Rodrigues (1987), Frost (1992), Ávila-Pires (1995), Frost et al. (2001b).
Distribution and habitat. Tropidurus insulanus is distributed in open vegetation enclaves in southearn Amazonia, restricted to the upper Tocantins, Xingu and Tapajós basins, and northeastern Cerrado, occurring only in Brazil ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 ). It is known from the states of Pará, Mato Grosso, and Tocantins. Tropidurus insulanus is terrestrial and diurnal, in Amazonia it inhabits sandy savanna with sparse trees and rocky outcrops (campos rupestres), where it is found on the ground, on low vegetation and on rock surfaces ( Carvalho 2013; museum data). Carvalho (2013) reported Tropidurus insulanus from Itaituba, state of Pará, from the middle Tocantins River (CHUNB 29321– 29375), but in fact these specimens are from Serra do Cachimbo, Novo Progresso, about 500 km southern Itaituba.
