Type-locality. “ in Brazilien bei Pará ”, restricted by Cunha (1981b) to surroundings of Belém, state of Pará, Brazil.

Distribution and habitat. Stenocercus dumerilii is distributed in the easternmost portion of Amazon basin (southern Amazon River, and eastern Tocantins River), and in its transition towards open vegetation domains (Cerrado and Caatinga), occurring only in Brazil ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ), in the states of Pará and Maranhão. Stenocercus dumerilii is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits semi-open habitats, as secondary terra firme forest, edge of primary forest, margins of rivers, and coastal vegetation, where it is found on tree trunks and on branches of low trees (between the ground level and 1.5 meters high—Cunha 1961; 1981b; Ávila-Pires 1995; Nogueira & Rodrigues 2006).
