Diagnosis. Tubes aggregated, forming colonies; tube grey to blue; very thick, with two longitudinal ridges, tube with flap projection over entrance; lacks peristomes or alveoli. Opercular peduncle yellowish, with wide, smooth and thick wings ( Fig. 7N). Operculum yellowish, as slightly concave calcareous plate ( Fig. 7O). Thoracic membrane extends to last thoracic chaetiger. Six thoracic chaetigers. Collar chaetae absent.
Habitat. Depth: intertidal to 1 m. Fouling species, on rocks and coral rubble on reef flat.
Distribution. Indo-Pacific. South Africa, Madagascar, Red Sea, Persian Gulf, India, Australia, Japan, Hawaii (Day 1967; Straughan 1969; Bailey-Brock 1987).
Taxonomic remarks. Pomatoleios kraussii has a short talon ( Fig. 7O) at the base of the operculum, as showed by ten Hove (1973, Fig. 34).
