Material examined.

Holotype: male, Indonesia, Irian Jaya, Birdhead Peninsula, Artak Mts., Warmare Dua , 0°58’ S 139°53’ E, 27.ii.1996, at light primary forest/cultiv. area, leg. ZMAM-exp. 1996, genit. prep. 3904 M. Fibiger. Coll. ZMAM. GoogleMaps

Paratype: 1 female with same data as holotype, genit. prep. 3939 M. Fibiger. Coll. ZMAN GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis.

Wingspan: 11 mm.

Forewing: blackish brown.

Transverse lines: black; terminal line marked by black dots between veins.

Reniform: distinct, whitish grey, outlined by black.

Hindwing: unicolorous brown with an indistinct black discal spot.

Underside: unicolorous brown.

Male genitalia.

Tegumen: narrow.

Vinculum: short, stout.

Saccus: V-shaped, short.

Fultura superior: Y-shaped with long narrow arms, medially fused with tegumen and ventrally with juxtaanellus.

Valve: shorter than wide.

Ampulla: long and very narrow, broadest subapically; densely setose with long hair-like setae bent inwards. Pollex : short, cylindrical, and broad; densely setose with long hair-like setae bent inwards.

Digitus: huge, narrow, tapered, bent, directed ventrally, apically pointed.

Juxta-anellus plate: higher than wide.

Phallus: narrow, curved, slightly tapered towards apex; coecum short and broad.

Vesica: with a prominent, spine-like cornutus.

Female genitalia.

7 th abdominal segment: heavily sclerotised, asymmetrical.

Anterior apophyses: length 1½ of posterior apophyses.

Position of ostium bursae: 1/3 from anterior edge of 7 th segment, slightly displaced to left.

Antrum: cylindrical, basal half wider than posterior half, heavily sclerotised.

Ductus bursae: membranous, coiling with several loops, 3 X longer than corpus bursae.

Corpus bursae: globular.

Appendix bursae: arising anteriorly from ductus bursae immediately after antrum.

Differential diagnosis.

P. newguineai differs from the other species by the long and narrow ampulla and digitus combined with a short and broad pollex, and the antrum with two different widths.
