Type species: Atyphella wolfi (Olivier) .

Diagnosis. Known from one species, Convexa wolfi , from the Solomon Islands; similar to many Atyphella especially in outline of pronotum, distinguished by its dorsal colouration of orange pronotum and dark brown elytra with pale orange lateral margins, pale apex and pale part of suture; male pronotum wider than width across elytral humeri, hypomeron not strongly adpressed in anterior half; pronotal punctation characteristic, being small, sparse, areas between punctures very smooth and shiny; elytra convex-sided. Aedeagus with ML constricted preapically and apex thus appearing slightly bulbous. Female macropterous, coloured as for male; larva not associated. [Repeated with slight modifications from Ballantyne & Lambkin (2009: 54)].

Of the four species from the Solomons having orange or yellow pronotum and dark brown elytra which are pale margined, two, Pygat. limbatipennis and Pygat. limbatifusca have LO retracted into anterior half of V7 and posterior area of V7 arched, MPP often obliquely truncate, posterior area of T8 venter with curved ridge slightly to one side of middle, and ML of aedeagus with paired lateral teeth ( Ballantyne & Lambkin 2009 figs 329, 330–340, 342–369, 370–376). Convexa does not possess any of those featur es. Magnalata limbata comb. nov. has a black MS, posterior area of the hypomeron is not closely adpressed, and the pronotal punctures are close ( Ballantyne & Lambkin 2009: 56, figs 17, 18, 227, 228, 229, 230, 235, 236, 238, 239, 244, Table 7 View TABLE 7 ).
