STATUS AT MADANG. Originally described from Madang by Randall & Desoutter-Meniger (2007: 309–310, fig. 3); photographed by A. Berberian. BPBM material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Madang, Papua New Guinea and West Papua ( Indonesia) . Endemic to New Guinea. On sand bottom near corals, 30 m. Marine.

Brachirus heterolepis (Bleeker, 1856) —Margined sole ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 )

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang and Papua New Guinea, based on a specimen photographed at Madang by P. Laboute on 11 Dec. 2012.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Papua New Guinea. Benthic, on inshore sand bottoms, 2– 30 m. Marine.

Pardachirus pavoninus (Lacepède, 1802) —Peacock sole

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens photographed by P. Laboute on 3 Dec. 2012, and another collected by W.-J. Chen in Madang Bay. AMS and NTUM material (AMS I.17084-019; NTUM 10120).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand and mud bottoms of lagoon and seaward reefs, 1– 40 m. Marine.

Pardachirus poropterus (Bleeker, 1851) —Estuary sole

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang as Achirus poropterus by Kailola (1975: 241). KFRS and WAM material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to New Guinea, north to Philippines, south to northern Australia. Benthic on soft bottoms of estuaries, lower reaches of rivers and streams, and in adjacent marine habitats, 1– 5 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen photographed by P. Laboute on 1 Dec. 2012, St. PR 148. AMS and WAM material (AMS I.15786-001; WAM P.29624-055). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Sand on reef flats, 0– 10 m. Marine.
