19. Chelipoda interposita Collin View in CoL
Chelipoda interposita Collin, 1928: 37 View in CoL .
Type material. Collin (1928) described Chelipoda interposita two males from Ohakune , 1–14/xii/1922 and i/ 1924, T. R. Harris [ BMNH]. Ohakune is in: New Zealand, North Island, RI. The male labelled: 1–14.xii.1922 is here designated lectotype . The other male collected i/1924 is here designated paralectotype .
Description. Male: length about 2.5mm, very similar to C. inconspicua differing as follows.
Head and thorax: black with pale grey dusting. Mesonotum with grey dust lacking the brown tinge of C. inconspicua , median and lateral stripes more strongly marked but still shifting according to point of view. Viewed from in front, a distinct grey dusting stripe developed posteriorly from about base of dc1 and dc2 emphasising a blacker, less dusted median area between the line of dorsocentrals. Pleural dusting not contrasting with that of mesonotum and darker stripes nebulous and varying according to point of view; lower katepisternum with a bare polished patch as in inconspicua .
Legs: C 1 and F 1 equally darkened, C 1 not paler basally but F 1 paler at extreme tip; mid and hind legs, paler, yellowish, contrasting with dark front legs; F 2 with 2–3 distinct pv bristles toward tip; F 1 with perhaps 5 av spines and 5–6 pv spines (difficult to determine in types).
Comments. Only known from the type specimens collected from the Rangitikei region in central North Island during December and January. The presence of pv bristles on F 2 and a distinct colour contrast between the front and other legs afford the best characters to separate this species from the closely related C. inconspicua .
